Welcome from Chairman

Dear Colleague,
We are busy preparing for the upcoming 17th International Conference
on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies - Acute Kidney Injury: Controversies,
Challenges and Solutions, and I would like to invite you to join us
in San Diego in February of 2012.
The CRRT Conference continues to provide a comprehensive coverage of the rapidly
developing field of Critical Care Nephrology and CRRT. It highlights the recent
advances in our understanding of pathophysiology of critical illness, acute
kidney injury, emerging strategies in the management of sepsis, multiorgan failure,
development and use of biomarkers, technical advances in CRRT and the appropriate
utilization of these techniques.
Once again the new program will present exciting current developments
and evidence for hemodynamic monitoring, fluid management, dialysis
timing, and extracorporeal support for critically ill patients. A mix of invited
lectures, pro-con debates, interactive workshops, Tutorials,
poster sessions and panel discussions are planned to continue the tradition
of multidisciplinary interactions.
2012 Conference Topic Highlights:
• Organ Dysfunction in the Critically Ill Patient
Emerging Concepts in Organ Cross-talk, Sepsis, Microcirculation and Oxidative Stress, Infections
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
Pathophysiology, Microcirculation, Mechanisms of Injury and Repair, Biomarkers
Targets for Early Intervention, Cardiorenal and Hepatorenal Syndrome, Long Term Outcomes
• Controversies in Management of the Critically Ill Patient
Fluid Management, Augmented Renal Clearance, Risk Stratification, Non-Invasive Monitoring, Blood gas and Electrolyte Disorders, End-Of Life Care
• Challenges and Controversies in Renal Support & CRRT
When to Start and Stop, What Dose of Dialysis, Fluid Management, Type
of Anticoagulant, Pharmacokinetics of Antimicrobials, Nutritional
Support, Quality Measures, New Techniques, Ethical Dilemmas
• Biomarkers for Management of Critically Ill Patients
Risk Stratification, Surveillance, Diagnosis, Targeted Intervention and Prognosis
• Special Sessions for Nurses and Allied Personnel
Competency Assessment, Managing Change in the Work Force, and Addressing
the Generational Gap
• Special Pre and Post Conference Workshops
Fundamentals of CRRT, Emerging Research in AKI, Hands On training
for CRRT Devices, Organization of CRRT Programs, Hemodynamic Monitoring
As always, we hope to provide the right environment to foster learning
and mutually beneficial communications and collaborations. We hope that
you will join us to share your knowledge and experience as it is
through multidisciplinary interactions that we will gain a better
understanding of critical illness and it is only through our collective
efforts that we will improve the lives of our patients. We look forward
to welcoming you to San Diego for the seventeenth time.
