Assistant Professor of Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School
Samir Parikh serves as a staff physician in the Division of Nephrology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and as a principal investigator with joint affiliations in the Division of Nephrology and the Center for Vascular Biology Research. His laboratory has described Tie-2 related mechanisms of vascular leak in sepsis, and more recently, systemic anthrax and idiopathic capillary leak syndrome. He also directs human subject-based studies to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of measuring soluble proteins that signal the endothelium in sepsis, in particular Angiopoietin-2. His laboratory is also engaged in understanding the parenchymal response to sepsis-induced microvascular injury where they have focused on the role of PGC-1α as a mediator of mitochondrial biogenesis. Dr. Parikh graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with a degree in chemistry and received the Founder’s Medal from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed post-graduate medical training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. His laboratory has been awarded research grants from the NIDDK, NHLBI, American Society of Nephrology, American Heart Association, and American Diabetes Association.
