Luis A. Juncos obtained his MD at the University of Cordoba, Argentina. Dr. Juncos then completed a research fellowship in hypertension and vascular research, and his internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital. He then completed fellowships in nephrology and critical care at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), after which he joined the faculty the where he became head of the Intensive Care Nephrology Section. Dr. Juncos then moved to the University of Mississippi to expand his physiology research. He was the Billy S. Guyton Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics, and the John Bower Chief of Nephrology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is currently Chief of Nephrology at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. His laboratory research examines the signaling mechanisms by which diverse factors (e.g. angiotensin II, nicotine, sex hormones) modulate acute and chronic kidney injury and how they impact the heart (cardiorenal syndrome 3). His clinical interests are in various aspects of critical care nephrology, in particular with regards to extracorporeal blood purification techniques.
