Pavan Bhatraju, Assistant Professor Seattle, WA USA Our laboratory is interested in understanding the epidemiology and pathophysiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients. AKI, as currently clinically defined, is caused by a heterogeneous set of pathophysiologic processes and is associated with variable outcomes. We have identified AKI sub-phenotypes with different genetic and molecular characteristics, risk of clinical outcomes, and response to therapeutics. Identification of AKI sub-phenotypes could improve risk prognostication and may be useful for predictive enrichment in clinical trials.
