Education and training: Graduation in Medicine on September 1997 at University of “La Sapienza” of Rome, Italy. Specialization in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care on October 2001 at University of “La Sapienza” of Rome, Italy. Professional experience: Zaccaria Ricci matured experience in critical care during his period from 2001 to 2006 as a staff clinician in the Intensive Care Unit of the Policlinico Umberto I at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, Italy. His areas of interest included pharmacological strategies and renal replacement therapies for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. His interest and expertise on extracorporeal therapies and blood purification developed in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, Vicenza, Italy, directed by professor Claudio Ronco. In particular, he has focused its main interest in Renal Replacement Dose Delivery and Information Technology applied to new generation machines for acute dialysis. He had the privilege of co-conducting the alpha trials of the Prismaflex and the Carpediem machines. Since 2006 he is a staff anesthesiologist of the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Bambino Gesù Hospital. His work has been devoted to the care of pediatric renal dysfunction and hemodynamic monitoring in the perioperative care of children with congenital heart diseases. He is author and coauthor of about 200 original articles, reviews and book chapters in the field acute kidney injury diagnosis and therapy and pediatric critical care. He is currently collaborating as a peer reviewer with more than 10 indexed journals in the area of Critical Care and Nephrology. Since October 2009 he is an Associated Faculty Member of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and in the Editorial Board of the journal Blood Purification. Since October 2013 he is an Associate Editor of the journal BMC Anesthesiology.
